It’s official: Sub Pop & the Head and the Heart are totally doing it

You probably already know about this, especially since Sub Pop is calling it one of the label’s “worst-kept secrets in recent memory,” but I still feel obligated to share the news that Sub Pop has officially announced the signing of local darlings The Head and the Heart. Of course, like I said you already knew this since you read Guerrilla Candy regularly and you probably also got the news elsewhere too before SP made its announcement (Note to Sub Pop: it’s not a secret if everyone knows about it).

Anyway, this “news” merits sharing because the label will re-release the band’s self-titled debut on vinyl and CD April 16, aka Record Store Day. The album is already available digitally everywhere right now. As part of the re-release (the initial release sold 8,000 copies according to Seattle Weekly) the album will include the previously unreleased ““No One to Let You Down,” which you can download for free below. Or at least I”m assuming the song will be on the album since the press release containing the news didn’t contain a track listing for the reissue. Regardless whether it made the tracklist cut you should download it for free anyway since you can manually add it to your copy of the reissue when it comes out on Record Store Day.

As for what’s on the horizon for The Head and the Heart, the band will headline a very sold out Crocodile Friday night and go on to tour with the Walkmen and Dr Dog in the coming weeks. Don’t be surprised to see them show up at various festivals this summer too including Sasquatch!

Here’s what the band had to say about the signing on its website:

We here at camp Head and the Heart are extremely excited, happy, elated, and possibly over-the-moon for the relationship that has been consummated with Sub Pop Records. They’ve released so many seminal albums that we all in the band cherish and to be a part of that history is amazing. We’re all still learning their nicknames, inside jokes and neurotic tendencies, but it feels good. It feels like home. We have no idea what this new year will bring (hopefully more Wine Fridays, am I right guys?), but with Sub Pop backing us, we’re ready to find out.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, that headline came from Sub Pop’s press release. Those cheeky bunch of Belltown monkeys.
