Jeff Ament’s new band Tres Mts. releases first single

Looks like none of Pearl Jam’s members are slowing down during the band’s twentieth year.

There’s been lots of activity in the Pearl Jam camp lately and between the band releasing a live album last week, planning its own music festival and reissuing two if its best records (Vs and Vitalogy) it would seem like there wouldn’t be much time for extracurricular activity, but boy do those guys in Pearl Jam like to keep busy.

Eddie Vedder is touring Australia (and I’m guessing he’ll be doing some surfing while down under), Stone Gossard is busy with Brad, Matt Cameron has been hitting the skins with his old pals from Soundgarden and Mike McCready is busy producing the new Star Anna record.

So what’s Jeff Ament up to? Well, he’s in a band call  Tres Mts. which features his old buddies  Richard Stuverud from the Fastbacks and dUg Pinnick of King’s X.  The band released its first single, “My Baby,” and you can download it for free by signing up to be on the band’s mailing list.

The band is expected to release its first album in March and will tour behind the release. Here are some words about Tres Mts from Ament as posted on Pearl Jam’s website earlier today

I first saw dUg Pinnick sing and play in 1989 with his band Kings X at the Central Tavern. Three years later, I asked them to open some shows for Pearl Jam and we quickly became friends.  I always joked, “when are we gonna make that heavy R & B record, you and me?” In 2001, dUg joined Richard Stuverud and me in one of our yearly writing sessions in Montana and again in 2004 with McCready.   After a few years of crossed up schedules, in 2010, we finally mixed the baker’s dozen songs that make up Tres Mts. These guys are all monsters and this batch of tunes is gonna be fun to play live.
