Tonight: William Elliott Whitmore, j.wong, & Jefferson Death Star

William Elliott Whitmore, j.wong, & Jefferson Death Star // El Corazon // 8 p.m. // $10

William Elliott Whitmore sounds like he was plucked from a completely different era. The music sounds like it comes straight out of the Deep South in the 1930s when the soulful sounds of the blues was popular. His music almost begs to be listened to on a scratchy radio that has a hint of static buzzing in the background.

Whitmore’s is actually somewhat of a punk kid, but instead of focusing just on guitar, he also picked up a banjo. So, with that banjo (and a collection of deep, brooding lyrics), Whitmore turned himself into a blues musician. Whitmore has a simple style. He is either playing a banjo or a guitar to accompany his gravely voice, and his stomping feet provide the percussion. Check Whitmore out tonight at El Corazon with j.wong and Jefferson Death Star.
