For Your Consideration: Kim Warnick’s new band The Calligraphers

Kim Warnick, she of Fastbacks fame, is in a new band with former Alien Crime Syndicate and Tommy Stinson guitarist Mikey Davis called The Calligraphers. Check out the demo for “Let the Eyes Talk” above.

Not much is known about the group aside from the fact that former Lemonhead Evan Dando was a forming member. Unfortunately due to geographical limitations Dando, who doesn’t live in Seattle, left the band after forming it with Warnick and Davis last year. Also of note is that the band has brought Warnick out of retirement from her days of playing with the Fastbacks and Visqueen and marks the first time in her career that she is writing songs.

The group started recording its first album in December and were joined by A Perfect Circle drummer Josh Freese for the recording sessions. Matt Bayles, former Minus the Bear member, is producing the album. Aside from being a member of MTB Bayles might best be known for his studio work with Soundgarden, Pearl Jam Botch and Mastodon (he produced and engineered Mastodon’s 2006 record Blood Mountain).

A release date has yet to be given for the album but you can get a healthy dose of the record when The Calligraphers perform at the Sunset Tavern tomorrow night (9 p.m., $7).
