My Goodness sign with Sarathan Records

We’ve been telling you about local blues duo My Goodness for most of 2011 and for good reason.

In the span of less than three months they rocked Guerrilla Candy’s launch party, were named one of the city’s best new artists and graduated from the small stage of the High Dive for the Guerrilla Candy soiree to rocking the big stage of the Showbox after some guy named Jeff Ament, who is in a band you may have heard of called Pearl Jam, hand-picked them to open for his new band Tres Mts. So yeah, Joel Shcneider and Ethan Jacobsen (the two men of My Goodness) have been pretty busy as of late.

The latest development in the world of My Goodness involves a record deal. More specifically they signed with local label Sarathan Records and their self-titled debut full-length record will be released by the label April 19. The album is a straight-up blast of blue-rock goodness with nine scorching tracks that borrow the best from many of the great blues icons past (Junior Kimbrough) and present (the Black Keys) and right when you think you have the band pegged as one-trick blues pony you’re thrown a curveball in the record’s tenth and final track. Unlike the rest of the album the song is an acoustic number and it is beautiful in its simplicity and its shows plenty of potential for a band that is already on the radar of just about every taste-maker in the city.

To celebrate the release of their album My Goodness will be playing a free show Friday night at the Rendezvous in Belltown. Doors are at 8 and the show starts at 10:30 but I recommend getting there early since the Rendezvous is tiny and there’s a pretty strong likelihood it will reach capacity quickly. Also scheduled to perform are Whalebones, which makes an already extremely appealing show a sure-fire winner when it comes to finding the best way to kickoff your weekend.
