Introducing Daydream Vacation

It’s no secret that we here at Guerrilla Candy really like ourselves some Head Like A Kite. After all, the electro-pop-hip-hop-dance group’s 2010 record Dreams Suspend Night was Guerrilla Candy’s favorite local record of 2010.

Head Like A Kite has always been the brainchild of Dave Einmo and one of the things that makes HLAK so great is the way Einmo brings distinct and talented artists into his HLAK world to create music. He seems to have a knack for getting the best out of Tilson, Trent Moorman, Her Space Holiday and others. So to say I am a little excited about Daydream Vacation, the new project featuring Einmo and Asya Smoosh from the band Smoosh is an understatement.

Immediately upon first listen it’s pretty clear that the combination of Dave and Asya sounds similar to Dreams Suspend Night opening cut “Let’s Start It All Again,” a song that features Asya on vocals. But what sets this material apart from that one track is Daydream Vacation’s pop leanings. Einmo’s bright, sunny electropop beats create a dance-friendly backbone for Asya’s light-as-air vocals to groove their way into your brain.

Daydream Vacation has only released two tracks (listen, and download “That Girl Don’t Sleep” below) and will be making its public debut Aug. 12 at the Olympic Sculpture Park during the SAM Remix. Expect a full-length record from the group before the end of the year, which is just in time to possibly land on Guerrilla Candy’s favorite local records of 2011  list (although it will be facing some stiff competition) .
