EMP to celebrate 25 years of Def Jam Recordings

Grunge isn’t the only musical movement of note celebrating an anniversary this year. Def Jam Recordings, one of the most influential and important labels in hip-hop, is celebrating its 25th anniversary as well. In case you need reminding, Def Jam is responsible in part for the rise of the likes of LL Cool J, the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, Kanye West and many other important hip-hop artists.

To mark the occasion the label is releasing a book and record commemorating the label’s remarkable 25-year run.  The book, called Def Jam 25: The First 25 Years of the Last Great Record Label, will be released Oct. 11 and EMP will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Def Jam with a panel at the JBL Theatre on  Oct. 26. The panel will feature former Def Jam creative director Cey Adams and journalist Bill Adler. Tickets cost $5 for EMP members and $8 for the general public.
