Listen: New Ra Scion ‘Beg, Borrow & Steal’

Ra Scion, he of intellectually forward hip-hop duo Common Market and conceptual superhero rap project Victor Shade, has been awfully quite lately. Almost too quiet considering the Victor Shade record was released in the early part of 2010 and it made its debut at a Guerrilla Candy party way back in September of 2009.

Well, looks like Ra is just about done with his current quiet spell as he is hard at work prepping for the release of a three-song EP of new material that will be available in the coming weeks. He performed the entire project, called “Beg, Borrw & Steal,” (not to be confused with this “Beg, Borrow and Steal”) at an open mic at the Cornerstone and it was captured on the video above.

The intro to the video says “Ra Scion as Victor Shade,” but last we heard from Ra Scion regarding Vic Shade was that he retired the project. Guess we’ll just have to wait until “Beg, Borrow & Steal” is properly released to find out whether reports of Victor Shade’s death were greatly exaggerated.

The next time you can see Ra Scion perform is Nov. 29 at Neumos when he plays on a bill with Star Anna (who is playing a solo, acoustic set), Land of Pines and other locals as part of a benefit for Planned Parenthood. Tickets cost $8 with all proceeds going to Planned Parenthood.
