Five to watch at Northwest Lovefest

I’s officially summertime which means outdoor music festivals will be in abundance for the next few months and one of those festivals worth paying attention to is Northwest Lovefest. The two-day event is being held at Magnuson Park June 30 & July 1 and it  features more than 45 local and regional artists, which means there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy live local music and possibly discover your new favorite band.

While there are dozens of talented musicians who will be sharing their love with the Lovefest crowds (including Star Anna, Caspar Babypants, the Gervais brothers and many more), here are five artists on the bill that come with the Guerrilla Candy seal of approval:

Carson Henley

The soulful Carson Henley recently released his latest album 100 Hours and his self-described green-eyed soul should provide a great soundtrack for a summer day in the park.

The Young Evils

The Young Evils are another band that simply screams summertime bliss. They’re gearing up for the release of their excellent EP Foreign Spells which is due July 10 so expect to hear new material mixed in with old favorites from their catalog.

Smokey Brights

If you’re a longtime reader then you know Smokey Brights are a favorite here at Guerrilla Candy HQ. If you’re a new reader, do yourself a favor and acquaint yourself with these guys. Their set should mix new, unreleased material (c’mon guys, I’m waiting for that new album to drop) with tracks off their debut Can’t Rightly Say.

Ayron Jones and The Way

These guys are one of the most promising young blues-rock bands in Seattle. Check out the clip above to see for yourself why critics like myself (and others) are excited about Ayron Jones and The Way and then be prepared to boogie down at Lovefest.

Fox and the Law

Another Guerrilla Candy favorite, Fox and the Law are also getting ready to release an album, Scarlet Fever, later this summer. The record will be the band’s first full-length and if their live shows are any indication of what to expect fans will be getting a scorcher of an album when it is released.

Tickets for Northwest Lovefest cost $15 for a two-day pass and can be purchased here.

  1. Fantastic time. Saw a lot of good bands, and a handful of great bands. Love was in the air, Here, in my opinion, these were the four shows nobody should have missed:

    1) Seven Diels – I don’t even remember seeing this band on the line-up until late. I was on the other side of the field when I heard this incredible music and voice. I ran to check it out and, low and behold; they were kids. Their tone and music were beyond their years. I’m a new fan.

    2) NoRey – This band will be one of the greatest bands ever if the love they put into their music is reciprocated. I never heard of NoRey before this event, but now I will make certain others hear about them.

    3) Ayron and the Way – Played only three songs, but the passion Ayron places inside his guitar bleeds and flows throughout, and fills the atmosphere. Have been following this band since they won the Hard Rock competition, and cannot wait to see where they go.

    4) JC Flow – Conscious music rooted in the slow subtly of New York hip hop. High energy and clean.
