New Mad Season album to feature Mark Lanegan

Barret Martin let loose a few details about the upcoming Mad Season record during a Q&A with Jet City Stream’s Marco Collins Sunday night. Martin was on hand at Capitol Hill Block Party to perform with his new band Walking Papers (which also features former Guns N Roses bassist Duff McKagan on record) — see video of Walking Paper’s set here —  and when asked about his current projects Martin talked about Mad Season.

He said the upcoming release will include songs with Martin’s former Trees bandmate Mark Lanegan filling in on vocal duties in place of the late Layne Staley. He didn’t say how many songs will feature Lanegan and didn’t address a release date for the record. He did say the songs Lanegan lends his voice to were originally written for Staley.

Mad Season, a band that has been disbanded for more than 15 years, has been in the news quite a bit recently. In April Mike McCready, the band’s only other surviving member, announced the news of a new Mad Season album and the issuing of a Mad Season box set and in May Martin made a surprise guest performance on stage with McCready to play “River of Deceit” during a concert at the Showbox. It was the first time the two of them had performed together in more than 17 years. The video of  that performance is embedded above.
