Ben Bridwell guests on Macklemore’s “The Heist”

Call it a powerful paring of Bens. Those Bens of course being Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell and Ben Haggerty, aka Macklemore.

I’ve been spending a little bit of time with an advance copy of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ The Heist the past couple of days and while on the whole I do think it is Macklemore’s best work, I can’t stop thinking about the song “Starting Over,” which is the record’s second-to-last track.

Bridwell plays guitar and contributes vocals on the song and while I don’t want to give away the meat of the track (that’ll come when I write about  the album in full), I will let you know that the song, like most of Macklemore’s best work, is a touching narrative about beginning anew that will likely pull at the heartstrings of anyone who has followed Macklemore’s life through his music. Both Bridwell’s guitar and his voice are unmistakable and work perfectly with the message of “Starting Over.”

The Heist will be released Oct. 9. Look for more words about the record on Guerrilla Candy soon.
