Watch rare Elliott Smith footage from an unaired VH1 pilot

Footage of Elliott Smith performing during an unaired pilot for a VH1 comedy show called The Jon Brion Show surfaced online late last week. The 43-minute episode, which was directed by P.T. Anderson, features Smith performing “Son of Sam,” “Independence Day” and a few other choice selections from his catalog. ¬†Along with originals, the footage has several covers including The Kinks’ “Waterloo Sunset,” John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy” and Big Star’s “Nightime.”
