One the things I’ve come to enjoy the most during the past 13 years or so I’ve spent covering Seattle’s music scene has been getting to know the amazing community of people — club owners, promoters, musicians, etc. — who make up the community I work to document and an important part of that community are the rocktographers (aka photographers who shoot rock shows) who tirelessly help chronicle the local music scene.
I’m lucky enough to work with several highly talented photographers and I take pride in being able to share their work on this site. I’d argue that the images they capture are as important, if not more important, than the work of the dozens of bloggers and journos who write about the local scene, myself included.
Tonight the Triple Door opens up a monthlong exhibit showcasing the work of 20 of those rocktographers, including Guerrilla Candy contributors Jason Tang, Alex Crick, Suzi Pratt, Christopher Nelson and Graham Lee. The event was put together by Mat Hayward, who shoots for 107.7 The End and other outlets, and as part of the exhibit patrons can vote for their favorite image and at the end of the month a ballot will be drawn at random and that lucky voter will get free passes to every show at the Triple Door for a year. That’s pretty cool.
The opening reception begins at 5:00 and lasts until 7 p.m. At 7:30 locals The Comettes will perform and following their set My Goodness will take the stage. If the excellent showing of local photography isn’t enough to drag you over to the Triple Door then the blues-rock assault of My Goodness will hopefully convince you to get your butt off your couch. So go out tonight and support local art and enjoy some loud rock music while you’re at it.
