Tonight: Catch Budo’s first public solo show at the Crocodile

If you’ve been paying attention to local hip-hop for the past few years then chances are you’re familiar with Budo.

You might know him as part of Slug’s Rhymsayers team thanks to his work with local MC (and fellow Rhymesayer team member) Grieves, or perhaps you know him from way back when he did some work for Macklemore’s debut full-length The Language of My World in 2005.

Sure his work producing and composing songs for indie rap heavyweights Cunninlynguists, Mr. Lif, Brother Ali and Slug is impressive, but he also keeps things local. Aside from working with Grieves and his early work with Macklemore, he recently dropped this excellent collaboration with Guerrilla Candy pal Grynch on my new favorite local label Fin Records, and lately he’s been hard at work putting together an upcoming solo album called The Finger and the Moon. As you can see, Budo likes to keep busy.

While we already know Budo plays well with others, tonight we get the treat of experiencing what happens when he steps out on his own. He will be performing his first ever public show as a solo artist at the Crocodile Back Bar. Take a listen to “Circles,” the first single off The Finger and the Moon, (embedded above) to get a taste of what Budo is capable of when he takes center stage. Now take a listen to “Spaces” (posted below) and you get an even better feel for what the record is shaping up to sound like. Looks like we’re going to have a winner on our hands when the album finally drops.

Budo performs at the Crocodile Back Bar with Orbe Orbe (all-ages, $10, 8 p.m.)
