If you’re looking for something to do this weekend and want to get out of town, I highly recommend checking out The Retreat on Lopez Island.

What’s The Retreat? It’s a one-day extreme sports event located smack dab in the middle of nature on beautiful Lopez Island featuring a gigantic skate ramp and a free music courtesy Blue Scholars.

Here’s a brief description of the action from The Retreat’s website:

More than 15 of the world’s top skate and BMX athletes will escape the mainland on August 17 and converge on Lopez Island in Washington State’s San Juan Islands to relax after the X Games, session on their own terms and hang with the locals. It’s called The Retreat presented by Skatelite®, the world’s premier manufacturer of skate ramp surface materials made in good ol’ Tacoma, USA. The Retreat is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to skate, ride and party with the best when they’re off the clock in one of North America’s most spectacular and relaxed landscapes.

So who are these top skate and BMX athletes? Some of the athletes participating include: Bob Burnquist, Mat Hoffman, Bucky Lasek, Ryan Nyquist and several other heavy-hitters from the world of extreme sports.

Live music in a beautiful setting with high-flying bikes and boards all for free sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.
