Tonight: Eclectic Approach, James Redfern, and HARPS at The Fenix

The iconic Pioneer Square club re-opened its sixth incarnation on New Year’s Eve in the space previously owned by The Last Supper Club.  Tonight’s show at The Fenix will be their biggest yet, featuring up-and-coming local bands Eclectic Approach, James Redfern, and HARPS.

Eclectic Approach is a band built on perseverance.  After three self released albums and four years of constant touring, the band was selected at SXSW as the top unsigned band in the U.S. by the Ourstage Panel, which included industry heavyweights Bruce Tyler (former VP of Sony and Columbia Music), Scott Igoe (talent booker for Jimmy Kimmel Live), Sharon Dastur (Program Director Z100, New York, NY) and Lee Dannay (Vice President of A&R Warner/Chappell Music).  The band was flown to New York City to record an EPK with legendary producer David Hewitt (U2, Aretha Franklin) and Emmy Award winning director Mitchell Stewart.  Most recently, the band performed at Play It Forward IV and was a musical guest on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“I want to make music that people can relate to and feel passionate about, but also makes it impossible for them not to move!” says James Redfern, Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist from Poulsbo, WA.  “Like Maroon 5 meets John Mayer, with hair on its chest” James replies when asked to describe his sound.

Armed with a handful of tunes, James headed into the studio with friends Alex Westcoat (Drums: Pickwick, David Bazan, Ivan & Alyosha), Bennet Pullen (Bass: Eclectic Approach, Tommy Simmons), & Dan Walker (Keys: Red Jacket Mine, Leroy Bell) to craft an E.P. of songs that, while vulnerable, are still full of energy and momentum.  He continues to write new material, while fine-tuning an explosive live show filled with catchy tunes, guitar acrobatics & an always killer band.

We featured HARPS on our latest installment of “For Your Consideration“.  The electronic pop outfit recently released their debut EP Marvelous Cheer and proves themselves both commercially bankable and artistically spirited in a mere five songs.

The very short of it is, frontman Colin Brown (Marry A Thief, Rory James) and his who’s who of Seattle players, including Nick Molenda (Allen Stone, Tess Henley, Eric Tollefson), Brian Salvage (Hooves), and Brooke Bower (River and Reeds), are smart.  Very smart.  But do not be fooled by the touching nature of their keyboard-pop.  They have a bone to pick.
