Did you know Allen Stone has his own music festival?
It’s true. The soulful Stone has an annual two-day event in beautiful Liberty Lake, Wash. called The Stone Family Field Trip. As the name implies, the entire event has a very casual, down-home, summer camp vibe where performers and attendees mingle and fans get face time with Stone and others on the bill.
This year’s Stone Family Field Trip goes down Aug. 9 and 10 at Zephyr Lodge in Liberty Lake and along with Stone, the bill is topped by Stephen Day, Theo Katzman and others. And while Stone is the main attraction here, like most music festivals the undercard is where all the action can be found.
The lineup draws talent from around the country including artists from Los Angeles, Detroit, Boston and other major cities but it’s the local talent that really makes this festival shine. The best part about these local names, aside from the talent they possess, is they’re all relatively undiscovered diamonds in the rough and discovering new music is part of what makes music festivals so much fun.
If you’re headed east to Liberty Lake for this year’s Family Field Trip there will be plenty to discover, including these four picks for local PNW artists you won’t want to miss.
Amelia Day
Okay, if you’ve been paying attention to the local scene the last few years then Amelia Day is not a name to discover. You’ve likely already seen her live several times as she’s no stranger to Seattle stages. However, she is a relative unknown on the national level, which is a crime against music. I mean, listen to her voice people. Just listen to that voice and tell me it doesn’t scream “I’m a star.”
Blake Braley
Hailing from Spokane, Blake Braley is a soulful keyboardist who fits right in with the vibe and sound of the Family Field Trip. Think of him like Spokane’s Allen Stone. His musical talent and soulful vocals are more than deserving of the comparison.
Vika and the Velvets
Led by Olivia Vika, this group is another promising act out of Spokane. It’s beautiful. It’s shimmery. It’s just plain good old fashioned throwback dreamy pop straight out of the PNW. Think if Neko Case and Jenny Lewis cross pollinated their musical tableaus and you’re there.
Alec Shaw
Here’s another name followers of the local scene may be familiar with. The former American Idol contestant has appeared on KEXP, played the Tractor a few times and worked to make his name known both locally and nationally. His set Family Field Trip set will be one not to miss.
Tickets for The Stone Family Field Trip cost $80 for a single day or $150 for two-days. There are also various VIP packages that range in price from $300 to $600. For more information visit the Stone Family Field Trip website.
