It’s been a minute since we’ve checked in on the Musicology Music Club, aka the only vinyl subscription service to focus exclusively on Pacific Northwest artists.
Launched earlier this year, so far the club has featured a wide variety of PNW artists including several Guerrilla Candy favorites such as The Gits, Glitterfox, SYML, Deep Sea Diver, Suzzallo and others. Today the club announced its next three monthly offerings and as usual they feature some of the best the PNW music scene has to offer.
Before we get into what’s next for the club (spoiler alert, it’s in the headline), here’s a refresher on what the Musicology Music Club offers. The club offers monthly ($30), quarterly ($85), bi-annual ($170) and annual ($340) subscriptions. And according to their website, this is what a subscription gets you:
- One record from either a PNW artist you know and love, a hidden PNW gem or a PNW act on the rise
- Exclusive Listening Notes that help tell the story of the artists and album
- Access to a private Discord where you can talk about local music with club members and give input on future Records of the Month.
- Occasional bonuses such as invite-only listening parties, additional records, stickers and more
In the past the club, which is curated by Latent Print Records and yours truly, has offered additional records as bonuses. It has included records by Hammerbox, Carrie Akre, The Divorce, Slender Means and others as free extras for subscribers. The Discord server is an attempt to build a community around the club and future plans include hosting events for members at Musicology Co.
Now, onto what’s being offered by the club soon. First up for August is Acapulco Lips’ summertime banger “Now.” In my review I called the album “an instant PNW summertime classic” and I stand by that praise. Along with getting the album on a flashy orange vinyl, as a bonus, club members will also receive an exclusive interview with Acapulco Lips and a copy of Tri Cities rockers Schedule’s 1992 self-titled LP on colored wax.
Following that, for September the club is celebrating the soulful Allen Stone by spotlighting his post-major label breakthrough “Building Balance.” The album features the killer opener “Brown Eyed Lover” and soulful “Consider Me” among others. It’s a record All Music says is filled with “ebullient R&B with a hippie soul that evokes the best of the new jack swing sound.”
To round out the next three months, the club is continuing its trend of featuring new releases with Smokey Brights upcoming record “Dashboard Heat” in October. Scheduled for release Sept. 26, the album is filled with the catchy pop-rock the Smokeys are known for with some fun and detailed storytelling on songs like “Northgate Way” and “Home.”
