Bumbershoot 2025: 5 don’t miss acts

It’s the tail end of summer which means Bumbershoot is right around the corner. This year’s festival, the 52nd overall for those who are counting, features a range of mostly modern music acts spanning multiple genres.

The main headliners include Weezer, Car Seat Headrest, Janelle Monae and Aurora. Highlights of the undercard range from hip-hop royalty in Digable Planets to emo royalty in Bright Eyes. There’s also Sylvan Esso, Tank and the Bangas, Frankie and the Withcfingers and many other notable acts that will grace the grounds of Seattle Center on Labor Day weekend.

But this post isn’t meant to be a list of names performing at Bumbershoot. If you’re attending chances are you already know about the headliners and big names on the undercard. Also, chances are you’re planning on catching their sets, so you don’t necessarily need to know a whole lot about those acts.

Instead of being a list of what you already know, this Bumbershoot preview is a list of five artists I’m excited to see live who may not be getting the shine they deserve. Here’s a look at those five Guerrilla Candy favorites that you need to include in your Bumber-plans.

Pretty Girls Make Graves

PGMG is a band I’ve seen live countless time and I was so excited when they reunited last year. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it to their show at the Showbox so I’m going to make up for that at Bumbershoot.

Murder City Devils

Unlike PGMG, I’ve never seen these Seattle rock legends live. They’re known for chaotic live shows, or so I’m told. It’ll be fun to find out if they’ve settled down decades after their heyday.

Budos Band

This instrumental group plays a mix of soul, funk and rock, often combining genres to make unique sounds and good vibes. Expect to see the crowd dancing a lot during their set.

Quasi

This veteran Portland duo plays in Seattle often and I’ve seen them several times. But I try not to miss any chance I get to see Janet Weiss pummel a drum kit, which is why I’ll be front and center at their Bumbershoot set.

The Linda Lindas

These young ladies played one of the most spunky, fun-filled sets I’ve seen all year when I saw them at the Showbox. It will be fun to see them play a daylight set in the shadow of the Space Needle.
