The Who delivered a roaring farewell at Climate Pledge Arena for their “The Song Is Over” tour. Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend proved rock vitality is timeless in a powerhouse two-hour set spanning six decades.
The night exploded with “I Can’t Explain,” “Substitute,” and “Who Are You.” At 80, Townshend windmilled his guitar like a pro, while Daltrey’s amazing voice effortlessly hit the screams of “Love, Reign O’er Me” and executed his signature mic swing with flair.
The set drew deeply from “Tommy” and “Quadrophenia.” Townshend paused to share personal history, confessing they almost stopped playing “My Generation” decades ago because they felt too old (then did a little dance to prove otherwise). The full band provided essential muscle; Simon Townshend, Pete’s brother took the lead vocal for “Going Mobile” while Daltrey played harmonica.
The visual production was stunning, interweaving modern graphics with recordings from The Who’s early years. The main set reached fever pitch with a massive audience sing-along for “Baba O’Riley,” elevated by Katie Jacoby on violin, and closed with the explosive energy of “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” Daltrey and Townshend then returned to the stage alone for an intimate, acoustic “Tea & Theatre.”
If The Who’s Seattle show proved anything, it’s that their song is far from a quiet fade-out. It’s a blistering reminder of rock’s enduring power.
