The recent Sweet Water headlining show at Neumos was far more than a gig; it was a warm, raucous reunion for one of Seattle’s finest rock bands from the early to mid-90s. The crowd, made up of significantly older but intensely engaged fans, spent the night rocking out, and the palpable camaraderie, full of handshakes and hugs, felt like a direct reflection of the band’s foundation. Frontman Adam Czeisler, guitarist Rich Credo, bassist Cole Peterson, and drummer Chris Friel, credit their decades-long friendship as the true strength of the band. Credo remarked that they “love the challenge to make art that reflects who we are,” and that shared history drove the entire performance.
The band launched into the set with “Cake and Strychnine” and “Big Rock Show.” Czeisler initially seemed “a bit constricted,” but upon shedding his jacket after a couple of songs, he became confident and energetic, fully embracing the room’s loving vibe. Guitarist Rich Credo was pure showmanship, strutting around, windmilling his instrument, and kicking the front amps, clearly having a ton of fun. Peterson was the cool anchor, rocking hard with the occasional jump, while Friel held down the rhythm section, constantly goofing around and exchanging smiles with his old friends.
The set mixed fan favorites like “Out of Control,” “Feel Good,” and “Shine On,” while also delivering a rare treat: the first-ever live performance of “Redemption.” The high-energy night closed with an encore featuring “Strip Down” and a deep cut, the hardly ever played live track “Suck On!,” cementing the evening as a triumphant celebration of enduring rock and roll.
