Introducing the My City’s Filthy Substack

The tl;dr of this post is that I started a Substack called My City’s Filthy to support a book I am currently in the process of researching and writing.

You read that right, I’m writing a book. What’s the book about? The Seattle music scene, of course. More specifically, the Seattle music scene circa 1995-2015.

The post-grunge era of the scene has largely been overlooked and definitely not documented very well, despite the Emerald City continuing to churn out quality nationally recognized artists long after the death of Kurt Cobain. I’m hoping to remedy some of that by writing a book that covers a lot of the artists, big and small, who helped shape the local music scene during that period.

Some content you can expect to find on My City’s Filthy:

  • Interviews with artists, promoters, band managers and other important players from the scene that will be used to help shape the book.
  • Excerpts from chapters of the book along with updates on the progress of the research and writing processes.

I want to emphasize the Substack will not be replacing Guerrilla Candy. Guerrilla Candy will continue to focus on Seattle music scene news, reviews and profiles. The difference between the two is Guerrilla Candy is about the present and My City’s Filthy is about the past.

I encourage you to head over to the Substack and subscribe (it’s free) and check out some of what’s been posted there. There I explain where My City’s Filthy came from, give details on the book-in-progress, share who my first interview was when I began my research and drop a brief profile of a merry group of Capital Hill troublemakers.

That’s what’s there now. There will be a lot more in that space in the coming days, weeks and months. I promise it’ll be worth the read.
