Late last year, quasi-supergroup Truly announced plans to reform and to release new music at some point in 2026.
The band, featuring former Soundgarden bassist Hiro Yamamoto and singer Rob Roth (former Screaming Trees drummer Mark Pickerel was in the original lineup but is not in the reunited lineup), was a staple of the 90s Seattle music scene and had potential to make it big. And while the new music has yet to materialize, the band is beginning to play shows locally, the first of which is happening tonight at Baba Yaga.
As if seeing a member of the old grunge guard wasn’t reason enough to leave the house on a Friday night, Truly will be supported by King Youngblood, one of Seattle’s most exciting and promising young bands. King Youngblood is celebrating the release of its latest album, “Afrothunda II” which was released today. Not only is the band supporting the album with shows, it is also promoting the album with the release of a graphic novel of the same name. It’s a clever way to both promote an album and engage a fanbase.
Tonight’s show is not just an opportunity to support local music; it’s an opportunity to see the music scene’s past meet its future. It is sure to be one of the best club shows of the year. Tickets are currently sold out, but maybe if you’re lucky you’ll be able to score some at the door before the show.
