Hounds of the Wild Hunt: A band in transition

Hounds of the Wild Hunt are a band in transition. Or at least I think they are.

After spending several years of playing shows as one of Seattle’s best wild and raucous punks under the name the Whore Moans, the band decided to change its name last year and are now known as Hounds of the Wild Hunt. As someone who knows a thing or two about name changes and the identity struggles that goes along with them, I am very excited to find out what direction the band decides to take with its new moniker.

I haven’t had a chance to see them live since they changed identities/names, so I figured why not ask them to play the Guerrilla Candy Launch Party so I can get a glimpse at what the Hounds have been up to? Plus, I thought it might be  cool to have some sort of name-changing connection be a part of the bill.

So will the guys in Hounds of the Wild Hunt continue to be loud, garage punks, or  will they go a completely different direction, as noted in the above and below video clips? You’ll have to drop by the Guerrilla Candy Launch Party at the High Dive Feb. 4 to find out.

In the meantime, here are some words about the two clips taken from the band’s website:

“These are songs we just sing around the house when we’re hanging out or songs we’ve tried out with the full band that didn’t quite work, or just some acoustic ditties we’ve been sitting on. So in the interest of giving these songs a little love and affection (and in the interest of getting you to pay attention to us) we are going to be filming some live performances around Wizard House (our home) and releasing them every week or so. However, we are a cripplingly lazy group of individuals so if we miss a deadline one week you guys can just go to hell. We are probably too busy watching 15 episodes of King of the Hill.”

Hounds of the Wild Hunt will perform at Guerrilla Candy’s Launch Party Friday night at the High Dive which is being hosted by Brent Amaker ($10, 9 p.m.). Also on the bill are My Goodness, Hobosexual and Hot Bodies in Motion.
