Soundgarden recording new music

Soundgarden is in the studio recording new music.

The band broke the news that new Soundgarden is on the way on its website earlier this afternoon with the following statement:

Over the past few months, we’ve been busy jamming, writing and hanging out together – exploring the creative aspect of being Soundgarden. It feels great. We have some cool new songs that we are going to record very soon. Thank you for all of the support!

Loudest of Love,

Ben, Chris , Kim and Matt

There is no word whether this means a full record, a few songs for an EP or just some tracks to add to the rumored b-sides collection. However, the band gave a little bit of insight into its plans on its Twitter account with the tweet:

Our goal for 2011 – Let’s make a record!

No matter what it really means, one thing is certain: Soundgarden is back.

In all seriousness though, hopefully this will mean a tour in 2012 that includes a few stops in Seattle (after the PJ 20 festivities are complete, take care of the important stuff first Matt Cameron) because the one-off Lollapalooza rehearsal show last year was amazing.

If you can’t wait until who-knows-when to have another Soundgarden record in your collection you can get your Soundgarden fix on March 22 when the band releases its first live album, Live on I5, which is quite good btw.
