Modest Mouse to release Buddy Holly cover

It’s been a few years since we’ve heard new music from Modest Mouse.

The band’s last proper full length was 2007’s We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank and its last smidgen of new-ish music was 2009’s EP No One’s First And You’re Last, which was a collection of B-sides and outtakes, so you’d image there has to be some new music on the horizon soon especially considering they are headlining this year’s Sasquatch! Music Festival.

While there is still no word on a new Modest Mouse album, on June 28 there will be some form of new Modest Mouse released into the world with the compilation album Rave On Buddy Holly, which is a tribute album being released to celebrate Buddy Holly’s 75th birthday. The record features an A-list cast of musicians reinterpreting Buddy Holly’s music. According to a press release announcing the album the musicians bring “radically new interpretations” to Buddy Holly classics.

For their part, Isaac Brock and Co. contributed a cover of “That’ll Be The Day,” on which the band takes the song “into truly avant-garde territory.”  Other big names on the compilation include The Black Keys, Paul McCartney, My Morning Jacket, Florence & the Machine, Cee Lo Green, Graham Nash, Kid Rock, Fiona Apple and others.
