UPDATE: Soundgarden announces big local concert

(UPDATE: May 5, 2011: Soundgarden will headline the Gorge Amphitheatre July 30. Opening acts are Queens of the Stone Age, Mastodon and Meat Puppets. Tickets go on sale to the general public May 14 and cost $65. A Soundgarden fanclub presale begins May 9)

Chris Cornell played a sold-out, solo show at the Moore Theatre Sunday night as part of his ‘Songbook” tour.

During the concert he announced that Soundgarden will play a home state show this summer. He didn’t announce the actual date but he did reveal the location and the month. Soundgarden will perform at the Gorge in July. According to fan sites the date is July 30, although no official announcement has been made.

That news, which is sure to excite Soundgarden fans throughout the Northwest (especially those who couldn’t get into the band’s sold-out Showbox concert last year), comes on the heels of Soundgarden/Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron announcing the band should be finished with a new album in May.
