Tonight: Cage the Elephant will rock SoDo

Kentucky rockers Cage the Elephant had a breakthrough year in 2009 thanks to its self-titled record that featured the inescapable radio hits “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked” and “Back Against the Wall.”

Earlier this year the group released the follow-up to that record, Thank You Happy Birthday and it’s an impressive step forward for the five-piece from Bowling Green. Whereas  the first album was a bit more of a straightforward rock album Thank You Happy Birthday shows growth with a few lighter, more delicate songs mixed in with more upbeat songs like “Shake Me Down.”

The growth shows more of a focus on songwriting instead of simply rocking out and provides some needed depth to the band’s catalog. The record also show lots promise for a band with only two full-length records to its name. That potential and depth will be on display tonight  at Showbox Sodo when Cage headlines a sold-out show with Manchester Orchestra.
