Tonight: Rodrigo y Gabriela w/C.U.B.A. at the Paramount

Rodrigo y Gabriela – Juan Loco (feat. CUBA) by ATO Records

Instrumental Latin guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela recently released their third studio album, titled Area 52, earlier this year and the record isn’t your typical Rod y Gab effort.

For the album the band decided to work a collective of Cuban musicians called C.U.B.A. and together they recorded and rearranged some of the songs off Rodrigo y Gabriela’s previous two albums. The result is an impressive nine-song record that delivers songs that rival their original counterparts in quality while adding depth to the group’s sound and providing new arrangements that breathe new life into familiar favorites. Check out the trailer for the record above and give the track “Juan Loco” a listen.

To support the album the twosome is doing something it has never done before — touring with a full band.  See and hear the difference C.U.B.A. makes to Rod y Gab’s music for yourself tonight at the Paramount Theatre when the groups perform together. Bobby Long opens the show. (7:30 p.m., $41.25)
