The Helio Sequence go all Zaireeka with ‘Negotiations’

Okay, so the headline for this post is slightly misleading. Portland’s The Helio Sequence aren’t releasing a four-disc album featuring four different recordings of each track that are meant to be played simultaneously to create one complete listening experience. But they are sort of doing something slightly similar. Allow me to explain.

Sub Pop announced the news of the bands new album, Negotiations, earlier today. The record will be released Sept. 11 and if you preorder the album from subpop.com or select retailers you will get a bonus album called Aces. According to a press release,  “Aces is meant to be played simultaneously with Negotiations on two different stereo systems to create an enhanced spatial experience.”

The Negotiations/Aces combo is very ambitious and it sounds close to what Wayne Coyne and his band did back in 1997 with Zaireeka. Negotiations is available for preorder now and you can download the album’s lead single, “October,” for free above. The Helio Sequence’s next Seattle performance is scheduled for Bumbershoot on Sept. 1 where they will play the Sub Pop curated Fountain Lawn stage.
