Report: Prince … yes that Prince, to play the Showbox in April

prince-purple-rain2

Things might be getting real sexy, real funky and real purple at one of the Showboxes next month.

Fresh off his SXSW club show in Austin last week, it looks like Prince will play a series of two-night club shows in multiple cities beginning next month and apparently two of those shows will be happening in Seattle. There’s been no official announcement from Prince’s camp about the tour, but his band, 3rd Eye Girl, announced several dates last night on the Prince Spreecast and said he will be at the Showbox at the Market April 18 and 19. Ticket information has yet to be released. Watch the announcement here (it begins around the one-hour mark).

Keep in mind that this was announced by his band and not Prince himself and that there has been no official announcement of Prince’s involvement with the tour. Also, I’m not calling 3rd Eye Girl liars, but it looks like Showbox at the Market is already booked April 18 and 19. Maybe they meant Showbox Sodo, which has almost double the capacity of Showbox at the Market. Or maybe the folks at the Showbox will move the two shows already booked at the Market over to Sodo to accommodate His Purple Holiness. Or maybe this is a false alarm. I’ll post more details when they become available.

Here are the dates, according to 3rd Eye Girl:

April 15 & 16: The Vogue. Vancouver, BC

April 18 & 19: Showbox. Seattle, WA

April 23 & 24: DNA Lounge. San Francisco, CA

April 26 & 27: The Joint. Las Vegas, NV

April 30 & May 1: Marquee Theatre. Tempe, AZ

May 3 & 4: Hard Rock Hotel. San Diego, CA

May 7 & 8: The Grove. Anaheim, CA
