Tonight: Catch Mona at the Showbox

Nashville buzz band Mona is a band worth seeking out.

The group plays straight-ahead rock that at times comes off as an engaging hybrid of October-era U2 and modern Kings of Leon. And while the group isn’t well known in its home country they are beginning to blow up overseas (which is a similar career trajectory to KOL’s). Want proof of said blowing upness? They’ve landed slots at some massive festivals this summer including the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan and the Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds Fests in the UK.

The band’s singe “Shooting the Moon” walks that delicate balance of something that could be dangerous but also feels and sounds familiar. Oh, and it also carries a pretty catchy modern rock edge too. Check out the clip below and you’ll see what I mean. Better yet, check out Mona  live tonight at Showbox Sodo when  the band opens for Airborne Toxic Event ($19, 7 p.m.).
