Kim Thayil & Matt Cameron to reunite onstage

It’s been almost a year since Soundgarden fell silent with the unexpected death of Chris Cornell.

Most of the remaining members of the band have remained busy since his passing, with drummer Matt Cameron continuing his duties in Pearl Jam and releasing his first solo album and guitarist Kim Thayil joining MC5’s Wayne Kramer on an upcoming tour celebrating the MC5’s 50th anniversary.

For the MC5 tour Kramer has put together an all-star cast of musicians including Brendan Canty of Fugazi, Dug Pinnick of King’s X and Tres Mts, Marcus Durant of Zen Guerrilla and Thayil. The group will have a slightly different configuration for the band’s performance in Denmark on June 8. The lineup will include Kramer, Thayil, Duran, the legendary Don Was and Cameron.

While the Denmark show will be the first time Cameron and Thayil perform together since Cornell’s death, it won’t be the first time the pair share the stage together with Kramer. Soundgarden fans will recall the infamous 2009 TADgarden set at the Crocodile.

The surprise three-song set foreshadowed the Soundgarden reunion that was to come the following year and it featured TAD frontman Tad Doyle fronting 3/4 of Soundgarden during three-song set of Soundgarden songs.

At the end of the show, which was an all-star night of performances put on by Tom Morello, Cameron and Thayil joined Kramer, Mark Arm and Morello for “Kick Out the Jams.”

Wayne Kramer’s “Kick Out The Jams: The 50th Anniversary Tour” comes to the Showbox on Oct. 16. Tickets are $35.
