Jimmy Eat World’s ‘Bleed American’ is getting the musical treatment in Seattle

Looks like it’s time to start littering the topsoil and putting sugar on the asphalt because Jimmy Eat World’s breakthrough record “Bleed American” is about to get some special treatment in Seattle.

How special? A theatrical production. That’s how special.

Local actor and director Jordan Henderson has put together a story and script for a musical based on Jimmy Eat World’s music titled “Bleed American.” Here’s a small synopsis of the plot, taken from the Kickstart Henderson set up to support the project:

Many of Jimmy Eat World’s songs have a political element which are the driving force behind this work. What is your poison? This story follows Sunoo, Davy, and Edgardo who are in a relationship together. They’re working together to protest and challenge the status quo in a post-climate disaster world. But what happens when a new politician, Jake, arrives and promises a better future? What will the three activists do when those in power know the poison to use to get between them? There are struggles with alcohol, attention and losing a sense of self to accomodate the ones you love.

The musical is a journey of finding out what it means to be yourself and the importance of standing up to oppression. They want a world where people get to choose their own endings.

The Kickstarter description also states “The heart of the musical is to give voice and opportunities to actors who struggle to find strong parts for their talents in mainstream theatre. “

You can support the creation of “Bleed American” by contributing to the Kickstarter, which is live through March 25. It currently has roughly $1,500 in funds raised out of its $40,000 goal.
