In case you didn’t notice, Guerrilla Candy now has a shiny, new calendar feature at the top of the page.

Calendar editor and new kid on the Guerrilla Candy block, Gina Corsiglia (who you may know from here), hand-picked a selection of shows to get the Guerrilla Candy stamp of approval for the month of January and they’re all posted under the calendar tab. So if you’re looking for a good show to check out try giving the Guerrilla Candy calendar a look. Along with creating calendar listings, Gina will chiming in from time to time with short blurbs previewing shows she is really excited about, so be on the lookout for her words in the near future.

In the meantime,  here’s a look at what you should be doing this weekend:

Friday, Jan. 7
Sound on the Sound Presents: Damien Jurado, Widower, Tony Kevin Jr. at Columbia City Theater – 9p.m./21 +/$14

Not only do the folks over at Sound on the Sound put together a great local music blog, they also manage to book impressive shows filled with local talent. This month they present a solid bill at Columbia City Theatre with SOTS favorite Damien Jurado, Widower and Tony Kevin Jr. which makes for a show any local music lover will enjoy.

Sat. Jan. 8

Eli/Porter, Gran Rapids, Eclectic Approach, and Make It So at Neumos/8 p.m./$8

Eli/Porter was featured as the first For Your Consideration band last year and after taking a bit of time off in December the band is ready to hit 2011 hard with one of their biggest headlining shows to date. This show should help set the stage for a solid year for the band which will include the release of its debut album and plenty of shows around town in the coming months so expect to hear plenty more about Eli/Porter down the road. With the group’s seamless blending of rock and rap styles the crowd at Nuemos should be one hot, sweaty mess of danced-out bliss Saturday night. Also on the bill are Gran Rapids, Eclectic Approach and Make It So.

Seattle Rock Guy & Alger Bay Presents: My Goodness, Lozen, High Class Wreckage and Brickbats at the Comet/ 9 p.m./$5

Sound on the Sound isn’t the only blog around town promoting a show this weekend. Nik over at Seattle Rock Guy put together a killer bill of loud and badass rock ‘n’ roll at the Comet, one of the city’s best dive bars/nightclubs. Headlining the bill is the hard rock/blues two-piece My Goodness, a band that will help christen Guerrilla Candy at the High Dive on Feb. 4. The band is poised for a breakout 2011 and has a record in the can it is shopping around to various record labels. The tiny stage at the Comet should make for a great setting to see the band’s loud, high-energy rock. Also scheduled to perform are Lozen, High Class Wreckage and Brickbats.

All-ages Movement Project’s NW All-Ages Summit at the Vera Project/1 p.m./$10 or $15
