EMP offers up Fly Moon Royalty, Vendetta Red & others for free

The Seattle Center has been celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1962 World’s Fair this year with a celebration dubbed The Next 50. It is a series of events covering arts, culture and history that ranges from a contest at the Space Needle that sends a civilian to space to customized art installments. Now that celebration features a free concert hosted by EMP Museum, which is of course on Seattle Center grounds.

The concert, called The Next 50 Play the First 50, will feature eight local bands performing their own original material as well as covers of legendary local artists who have performed at the Seattle Center over the past 50 years. Artists scheduled to perform include: Vendetta RedGrand HallwayFly Moon RoyaltySeacatsCandysoundSpecial ExplosionBrothers From Another and Dungeon Science.

The cover songs have not been revealed and countless legendary locals have performed at the Seattle Center ranging from Pearl Jam to Heart so there is plenty of choice material for the bands to choose from. A press release announcing the show lists “Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Sir Mix A Lot, Modest Mouse, Presidents of the United States of America, Blue Scholars, Death Cab for Cutie, Built to Spill, The Wailers, and more” as possibilities, so expect to hear songs by those artists.

The free concert will take place at the Mural Amphitheatre July 7 between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
