Bumbershoot’s return topped by Sleater-Kinney, Sunny Day Real Estate

Bumbershoot‘s 2023 lineup features an eclectic mix of rock, hip-hop and electronic music alongside plenty of the festival’s trademark Pacific Northwest flair.

The 50th anniversary of Seattle’s music and arts festival will be headlined by Sleater-Kinney, Sunny Day Real Estate and Fatboy Slim. Those big names will join resurgent punks AFI, electronic superstar Zhu, influential emo rockers Jawbreaker, roots rockers The Revivalists, Alabama Shakes singer Brittany Howard, former locals Band of Horses and indie rapper Benny the Butcher as part of the first Bumbershoot in three years.

Organizers have said this year’s festival is a return to Bumbershoot’s roots with a lineup that emphasizes local artists while also featuring bigger national acts. That proves true with nearly one-third of the 63 acts announced have ties to the Pacific Northwest.

The representation of Seattle and Pacific Northwest artists is a reflection of the region’s musical diversity. Some of the local acts include MoPOP Sound Off! alumni Sol and D Black, soulful artists The Dip and The True Loves, nineties favorites Sweet Water and Girl Trouble, rising electronic artist Chong The Nomad, one-man band Reignwolf and the highly energetic Thunderpussy. Those are some of the bigger local names that join a lineup that also includes King Youngblood, Wimps, Massy Ferguson, The Black Tones, Beverly Crusher and other locals.

Along with the heavy dose of local talent, other notable artists include English shoegaze pioneers Ride who will be performing “Going Blank Again” in its entirety, comedic oddball Puddle’s Pity Party, iconic New Orleans group the Rebirth Brass Band, tropical pop duo Bomba Estero, punk mainstays Descendants, electronic duo Pantogram and energetic rockers Matt and Kim.

Bumbershoot 2023 takes place Sept. 2-3 at Seattle Center. Tickets are currently on sale. Two-day passes cost $110 and single-day tickets are $65.
