Watch Mike McCready debut his Chris Cornell tribute song ‘Crying Moon’

The Seattle music scene continues to mourn the loss of Chris Cornell six years after his death.

This loss was felt and recognized at the Showbox Saturday night during a rare performance by 90s Seattle supergroup The Rockfords. The band, which includes Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, Carrie Akre, Chris Friel and Danny Newcomb from Goodness and scene mainstay Rick Friel, was playing a show to celebrate the recent reissue of its self-titled debut record and follow-up EP.

During the show, McCready debuted a solo acoustic song he wrote. The song, titled “Crying Moon,” is a touching and emotional tribute to his friend and Temple of the Dog bandmate, Chris Cornell.

According to The Wishlist Foundation he shared these words before the song:

“I wrote this song for my friend Chris Cornell, the late, great. It’s kinda how I have to process. A lot of the singers have died in this scene. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. I get the drug aspect of it, but it’s such a horrible cliche. But Chris was such a sweetheart to me, he let me play on the Temple record, and that was a huge intro to my new life at the time, and I’ll always love him for that.”
