Elliott Smith’s old band Heatmiser getting reissued by Third Man Records

Most Elliott Smith fans know about his pre-fame rock band Heatmiser.

The group, which formed in Portland in 1991, plays almost the exact opposite type of music Smith became known for as one of the more talented singer-songwriters of late 90s and early aughts. Its guitar-driven garage rock was en vogue during the time of the band’s inception and it still holds up today.

In recent years the band’s music has been reissued on vinyl and made more widely available on streaming platforms, which has led to many Elliott Smith fans discovering the group. Now those new fans, and old ones too, can hear how the band got started thanks to Jack White’s Third Man Records label. The label is reissuing the demo as part of a two-LP set that also includes live recordings, rarities and other demos.

Titled “The Music of Heatmiser,” the album will be released digitally and physically (on vinyl and CD) Oct. 6. You can preorder the album here. And you can watch a video for a liver perfomance of “Lowlife,” which is included on “The Music of Heatmiser” album, below.
