Weezer’s 90s nostalgia ‘Blue Voyage’ tour brings Flaming Lips, Dinosaur Jr to Seattle

It’s no secret Weezer’s fanbase is divided into two factions. One adores everything the band releases while the other worships Weezer’s self-titled deubt and dropped off after 1996’s “Pinkerton.” Myself, I’m in the middle of these groups. I think there’s a lot of good to be found on albums like “Maladroit,” “The Red Album” and “OK Human,” but the band’s first two albums are undisputedly its best.

Weezer previously toured in celebration of “Pinkerton” and their debut record and played both those albums in full during the tour. This year Guerrilla Candy’s pal Rivers Cuomo and the rest of Weezer are going on another tour that will appease fans of the 90s ‘Weeze and that tourr is coming to Seattle.

On Oct. 4 Weezer and its Blue Voyage tour will come to Climate Pledge Arena and as part of the tour the group will perform all of its self-titled debut, aka “The Blue Album,” in full. As if that isn’t enough 90s nostalgia, 90s rock holdovers The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. are also on the bill.

The Flaming Lips and their leader Wayne Coyne, another friend of Guerrilla Candy, also fall into the camp of having fans who think the group’s best work happened in the 1900s. I wholeheartedly disagree with this viewpoint because I think 2020’s “American Head” is a low-key masterpiece. But still, there is a large group of Flaming Lips fans who feel the band’s earlier output was its best.

As for Dinosaur Jr., they’re also a Guerrilla Candy favorite and good buddy. They also happen to be one of the loudest bands I’ve ever seen live. I expect them to come close to blowing the roof off CPA when they plug in and crank it up to 11 in Seattle.

Tickets for the Blue Voyage tour go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. Presale begins Wednesday at 10 a.m. using the presale codes DINOJR or YOSHIMI.
