Long forgotten Seattle group War Babies to release sophomore album

If you’re an old school Seattle music head or a deep cut Pearl Jam fan, there’s a good chance you know about War Babies. If not, it’s time to get educated.

War Babies were a local hard rock band from the late 1980s that included former members of The Fastbacks and TKO. And at one point, shortly after the death of Mother Love Bone’s Andrew Wood, Jeff Amet was a member prior to joining Pearl Jam.

War Babies’ lineup included former TKO singer Brad Sinsel, guitarists Tommy “Gunn” McMullin and Guy Lacey, bassist Shawn Trotter and former Fastbacks drummer Richard Stuverud. Ament joined the band in May of 1990, two months after Wood’s death and roughly five months before forming Pearl Jam.

War Babies released one self-titled album in 1992 and 32 years later their sophomore record, titled “Vault” will be released in July on the NW Metalworks label. The material on the album consists of recording sessions from 1990-92, some of which included Ament. The band joins The Living, 10 Minute Warning, Malfunkshun and others on the list of lesser-known-but-equally-important bands from the pre-grunge Seattle scene that have received reissued records in recent years.

You can pre-order “Vault” at NW Metalworks’ website. Below check out their debut single from 1991, “Hang Me Up,” which was co-written by KISS’ Paul Stanley.
